“If the Season Ended Today”

We start to hear that phrase every year at this time. We also hear all about the “dog days” and how this is the part of the season that can drag on for teams, players and fans. So, screw it, season over! Let’s just get to the postseason…

AL Wild Card: Congrats to Seattle for sneaking into the playoffs on the season’s final day. Unfortunately, this is where it ends. Severino stymies the M’s and the young Yanks make their way into an ALDS for the first time without Derek Jeter.. Yankees advance

ALDS – HOU vs. NYY: Houston will not lose focus like they did in 2015 against the Royals. The Yanks steal a game, then spend the offseason preparing for a deeper run in ’18.. HOU wins series, 3-1

ALDS – BOS vs. CLE: Boston was the one team that had to avoid the Wild Card game. Burning Chris Sale would have spelled the end of the Sawx in a five-game series. Sale and a resurgent Rick Porcello combine to keep the Indians’ bats at bay, while red-hot Eduardo Nunez continues to lead the Boston offense.. BOS wins series, 3-2

ALCS – HOU vs. BOS: The Astros, having disposed of the bad taste of 2015, now play more confident. They’ve got their hands full with a sizzling Red Sox team that has caught fire at the right time, but, in the end, it becomes apparent they are the better team.. HOU wins series, 4-2

NL Wild Card: An NL-West battle in the Wild Card game, just like everyone (no one) predicted. Colorado rallies late in the friendly confines of Coors, with Charlie Blackmon becoming a postseason hero when he walks the Rockies off to the NLDS… Rockies advance

NLDS – LAD vs. COL: Clayton Kershaw’s back isn’t quite ready to go. And the Dodgers still sweep in the most forgettable series of the postseason. Great season Rockies, you can hold your heads high!.. Dodgers win series, 3-0

NLDS – WSH vs. CHC: Bryce Harper is good at baseball. He has not, to this point, been a “Legend of the Fall”. This series changes that. The Nationals follow Harper’s lead, pushing the Cubs to their limits, eventually ousting the champs in a stunner.. Nationals wins series, 3-2

NLCS – LAD vs. WSH: A postseason series win for the Nationals feels like a World Series win to the fans, and maybe the club as well. Overmatched, Washington plays from behind most of the series. A series that ends with Clayton Kershaw pitching the final four innings of an out-of-reach game to send the Dodgers to the World Series.. Dodgers win series, 4-1

World Series – LAD vs. HOU: I know, super imaginative to pick the top two teams meeting in the World Series. But hey, I already ended the season early, how much creativity do you want? The teams split the first four games, with the home team winning each contest. L.A. manages to eek out a Game 5 win in Houston, then wins the title at home, with, you guessed it, World Series MVP Clayton Kershaw getting the start and win.. Dodgers win Series, 4-2
